IT Process Institute Announces Protiviti is a Managing Sponsor

Eugene, Oregon, Aug. 20, 2007 - The IT Process Institute today announced that Protiviti Inc. is a Managing Sponsor of IT Process Institute research and benchmarking activities. The generous support of its primary sponsors enables the IT Process Institute’s efforts to study top-performing IT organizations and learn from the practices that make them excel.

Protiviti is supporting the IT Process Institute’s ongoing study of how IT controls impact performance. Research indicates that a relatively small number of IT controls have a significant positive impact on key performance measures. These findings can help organizations focus IT control efforts in those areas that are shown to improve performance. Protiviti is also helping fund research of the change, configuration and release activities that differentiate top-performing IT organizations. This study reveals that specific release and configuration management practices have more impact on performance than other functions in the popular ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) framework, and that the process management efforts and process culture of the IT organization help enable performance breakthrough.

"Protiviti is dedicated to helping organizations improve how technology is managed through managing risk and improving the maturity and effectiveness of IT processes," says Jeff Weber, a managing director with Protiviti and leader of the company’s IT Infrastructure Management practice. "IT Process Institute research provides data-based benchmarking tools that help Protiviti identify improvement opportunities for our clients that are based on the proven practices of top IT performers in various industries. Applying the research and tools helps raise the bar for all IT organizations that seek the highest levels of operational performance."

Protiviti has incorporated the existing research related to the IT Controls benchmark throughout its IT audit and consulting practices, raising awareness with clients of the value of IT controls and how effective IT controls help improve the ability of IT to meet the needs of the organization. Weber added, "We are intent on helping our clients improve. The current benchmark and future research from the IT Process Institute is an important component in our ability to measure the value we bring to our clients."

In addition, Protiviti is supporting upcoming IT Process Institute research about how top-performing IT organizations manage the ongoing alignment of IT capabilities with the changing needs of the business.
