New – Private Cloud Project Secrets of Success
Many IT organizations are considering deploying private or hybrid IaaS cloud solutions. However, cloud projects are harder than typical IT projects because people, process and tools all change. To help IT decision makers plan and execute successful hybrid cloud deployments, we studied 143 private or hybrid cloud deployments to uncover secrets of success. This paper highlights key findings from the ITPI research report “Private and Hybrid cloud IaaS; project success factors”. The paper summarizes what worked at top performing IT organizations that had the best results with their cloud projects.
Production Server Virtualization – impact on IT service management procedures and controls
The use of server virtualization has moved beyond test and development. 72% of 323 recent ITPI research study participants are aggressively virtualizing production servers. However, of those organizations, 58% had at one point paused adoption to review and implement procedures and controls designed to increase comfort level with virtualization technology in the production environment. This executive summary outlines study findings and highlights key controls that are commonly adopted with server consolidation and higher maturity use cases. Benchmark available.
How IT Governance drives improved performance
Companies with mature IT governance initiatives focus more on agility and supporting business initiatives than their lower maturity peers. Lower maturity organizations focus governance efforts more on cost and risk reduction, compliance, and security. High maturity organizations differentiate themselves with higher performance in four key areas of business value. Based on analysis of governance practices and performance at 389 companies, we developed a model that can help optimize performance for IT organizations at three levels of maturity. Optimizing Application Lifecycle Management
Deploying and maintaining software applications has become a key success factor for executing an IT-enabled business strategy. An IT Process Institute study of 340 IT organizations identified specific application lifecycle practices that predict top levels of performance. The combination of an end-to-end lifecycle, a focus on process, the use of rigorous pre-release practices, and leveraging tools and automation can help IT organizations achieve the simultaneous objectives of increased agility, efficiency, and control. This paper highlights the use of key practices and their impact on key operating performance measures, that differentiate top performers from their lower performing peers.
Executive Snapshot – Know Thy Self – Improving an IT organization’s ability to drive business success
This 18 page executive summary paper provides an overview of the findings of the 2008 Strategic Alignment Performance study. The study of 269 IT organizations suggests that aligning an IT organization’s value archetype to strategic key success factors is a powerful way to optimize strategic alignment. The IT value archetype model can be used to help IT organization optimize alignment at three levels: 1) archetype fit to strategy, 2) attributes within and archetype, and 3) practices that predict the highest alignment performance for each archetype group.
